Buying sports equipment that’s new and fresh out of the box is not only the best approach, it’s critical if you’re dealing in a contact sport as a player or sports official. On many occasions, inferior sports equipment has been the cause of serious injury or death in amateur and professional sports. If you’re a coach or equipment manager it is incumbent upon you to be cognizant of inferior or damaged sports equipment, and have it replaced. Correct sizing or cost is not a concern with professional sports teams in terms of proper equipment. It’s first class. They can afford it. Our attention concerning proper equipment should be directed toward the younger kids from Pop Warner up through high school. As a 15 year amateur coach and sports official there are many times when, if the opportunity arises, older, inadequate equipment is used whether it fits or not. If a kids football helmet comes close to a fit, coaches use it. Why? Cost of the equipment is the main reason. Buying new is always best if affordable.
